How Long Do Fragrance Sachets Last?

A SCENT of You fragrance sachet lasts approximately 3–6 months. The range is wide because three things change it: temperature, airflow and where you put it.

What makes a sachet fade faster

Heat. A car parked in the sun reaches temperatures no wardrobe ever will. Fragrance evaporates faster when it is hot.
Airflow. Clipped to an air vent with the fan running, scent disperses quickly. That is the point — but it uses the sachet faster than hanging it from the mirror.
Open space. An enclosed wardrobe or drawer holds scent. A large, well-ventilated room disperses it.

Roughly what to expect

Wardrobe or drawer — towards the longer end of the range. Enclosed, stable temperature, little airflow.
Car, hanging from the mirror — middle of the range, shorter over a hot summer.
Car, clipped to a vent in daily use — towards the shorter end. Strongest scent, fastest use.
Open room — varies most; depends on the size of the room and the ventilation.

How to make one last longer

Start it hanging, not clipped. Use the vent clip when you want a lift, then move it back to the mirror or under a seat.
Keep it out of direct sun where you can.
Move it between spaces. A sachet that has quietened in a car often still scents a drawer for weeks.
Keep it in the box between uses if you are saving it for a season.

Why a sachet outlasts a spray

An aerosol or a gel releases everything into the air at once and is gone in days or weeks. A fabric sachet holds fragrance beads that release slowly, which is why the life is measured in months rather than weeks. There is no liquid, no flame, no spray and nothing to refill.

Does it need replacing all at once?

No. A sachet fades gradually rather than stopping. Most people notice it has softened before it has gone, which is a good moment to move it somewhere smaller — a drawer or a glovebox — rather than replacing it.
